Little Words for Little Things

Using a long word like "maximize" for the process of making something larger seems quite sensible. Using "minimize" to make something smaller, by contrast, seems a bit counter intuitive. Shouldn't there be a small, or at least smaller, word for that process?

I'm happy to report that the programmers responsible for a web program I use called "Bloglines" have taken matters into their own hands and decided to improve the English language. I fully support their efforts.
