APOD #1 of hundreds

As you probably know, Astronomy Picture of the Day is one of (a) the oldest sites on the internet, started in 1995, and (b) one of my personal favorites. I check it every morning to see what kind interesting astro-thing, from exploded stars and distant galaxies to the space shuttle and aurora borelis, is posted today. My favorites are the deep-space pictures of stars, nebulae and galaxies in their various phases of evolution. This one of M57, the Ring Nebula, is about as spectacular as they come.
