Despite many hours of wondering on this topic, I've never been able to come up with a completely satisfactory answer to the question of:
What is the essential foundation of Conservative political thought?
Is it fear, as it appears some of the time?
Or is it hatred, as it appears the rest of the time?
There are powerful arguments to make for both answers.
